WIP - African Girl IIIby *szymczuk

Duration: 9 – 10 hours so far

This is a pencil sketch I’m currently working on (9 – 10 hours so far).

Day three:
I’ve had a couple of hours today to continue my sketch of the African girl I recently decided to undertake.

I wasn’t too happy with the structure of her face, (far too masculine?) so I went over with some more subtle cross hatching to soften her skin, especially around her cheeks and lower jaw (much better?).

Once I had finished giving her a facial make-over of sorts, I then spent time on her slender neck, and fished off by adding her bead necklace and earring. These dark contrasts are beginning to show her beautiful skin tones in a better light.

Now (for those following me on this pencil study exercise), I do believe I’m just about ready to begin the background, which I had always intended to do from the outset, trouble is, I keep looking at what I’ve done and keep finding those odd discrepancies, that my inner self seems to somehow find. Satisfying the standards of one’s own art is never easy is it?

Anywhoo, the background can wait, I’ve a lovely cup of hot tea waiting, and I do believe we have some Scottish shortbread biscuits somewhere hiding in the cupboard in my kitchen…

Wow, it's funny... I was about to do this very picture for my art project.... I chose another one sort of similar... But yours blows mine right out of the water!
